It’s fair to say 2020 was a year like no other, and as we begin to see the metaphorical sun from behind the clouds appear, there has never been a better time to come together and celebrate our magnificent tourism sector… And what better timing than during English Tourism Week 2021 taking place between 22nd and 31st May!
More so this year I feel, this annual celebration of English Tourism really highlights the importance, value and vast contribution the sector makes to the UK economy. It champions our diverse, exciting and vibrant sector, and really showcases the quality, value and range of English tourism. The week also provides an essential opportunity to raise awareness of our award-winning sector to key stakeholders including parliament.
Through collaborative working with Visit England in supporting English Tourism Week (ETW), my colleagues and myself are dedicated to helping highlight and underpin the recovery of our sector after such a challenging period. And that’s why as Relationship Manager for Visit Lincoln I am urging all businesses to join me in supporting the week via social media engagement and by downloading the VisitEngland ‘English Tourism Week’ toolkit.
This year, I am delighted to announce that the theme is “Here for Tourism”, and can I say, what a perfect theme that is as we welcome businesses back to our much-loved city.
To be involved, all businesses need to do is download a copy of the briefing document, ETW logo and ‘Here for Tourism’ industry assets to use across social channels to share the message, along with the hashtag #EnglishTourismWeek21 and encourage stakeholders and clients to show they are ‘Here for Tourism’ too – it couldn’t be easier!
I strongly believe it has never been more important to celebrate and champion domestic tourism as it is now. So many businesses have faced unprecedented times, and it’s safe to say we’ve missed them! This is such a fantastic opportunity to showcase our outstanding offer here in Lincolnshire, as we embark on the crucial summer season. It is imperative we support our local businesses, which have lost months of vital trading, as they reopen and rebuild, and really put them on the map.
In the lead-up to English Tourism Week and throughout, VisitEngland is also encouraging people to share photos and social media posts to show support for the sector using #EnglishTourismWeek21. As well as the toolkits VisitEngland has produced a series of posters for tourism businesses and destinations to download and get involved in the week, promoting their local products and services, attractions and experiences.
Tourism is one of our largest and most valuable industries, supporting hundreds of thousands of businesses, employing more than 2.6 million people and usually generating more than £106 billion a year for the English economy.
I for one am proud to champion our county, join me and let’s get behind this fantastic initiative together!
