Marketing Intern, Chris, explains his experiences within the marketing world during his time working at Purple Robot.
During my first 6 weeks at Purple Robot, I learned a lot about what working in a fast-paced marketing and design agency is like. From having to adapt and overcome issues that pop up, to working towards an end goal, it has certainly been one massive learning curve.
For me, this was exactly what I wanted. This internship has given me the chance to continue learning and developing, whilst also being able to contribute to the team and help out in any way I can. I was surprised when I was given the opportunity to head up one of our client’s projects, the ‘Massingberd-Mundy Lincoln Red Beef Superbike Club’, but I grabbed it with both hands. There is a number of smaller responsibilities that come with this, which included tasks like making sure the member orders are processed, answering any questions from customers, running social competitions, and creating the exclusive team eMagazine, ‘Pit Stop’.
I was also given the chance to help prepare for Cadwell Park’s Sidecar Revival race day, which is a huge international racing event. At first, I wasn’t sure how to go about setting this up as I had no experience in doing anything like this before, but I got stuck in and helped to put together a successful event.
My eyes have also been opened to what working for clients is really like. Coming from University where a lot of my work was self-initiated it is good to work from real briefs from different clients.
Working here at Purple Robot is my first ‘real’ job so I was very nervous when I started, but the entire team are friendly and welcoming. I learn the most by getting stuck in and doing, and I have been given the opportunity to do just that here. Coming from a design background, there is a lot about marketing that I still don’t know. I do know however, that if I’m unsure about anything, I can ask a member of the team and they will help me. The same can be said about any questions I have when it comes to design.
I am so glad I have been given the chance to work here at Purple Robot as I know this experience is invaluable for a graduate. Working hands-on in the industry you want a career in is a great chance to feel out if it is the right industry for you, and to make sure that it is what you to pursue.
